Visit from a Postman

Our Downend Pre-school had a visit from one of our parents who is a postman. He came in to talk about his job and answer questions that the children were asking excitingly. He explained that he has to wear a special uniform with a special badge for Royal Mail which has the Queen’s crown on it. He also told us that he delivers to lots of the houses in Downend and even delivers post to the nursery! The children were very keen to listen to all of the different types of boxes, parcels and post he delivers as well as showing us a trick that he uses. He has a special plastic tool to put the post in just in case there is a dog by the letterbox, to make sure he is safe from having his fingers bitten! The children then were able to tell us about their parcels and post that they have delivered to their houses. We have now created a post office in our role play area for the children to extend this interest further and understand the process of sending, receiving and delivering letters and parcels.

If any other parents would like to visit the nursery to talk to children about their exciting jobs please get in touch!
