Today the pre-school children from Midvale Road were very lucky as they got to meet the Paignton steam train driver. His name is Ian and he has worked on the steam trains for 31 years, driving them for 15.

He visited the children at the nursery and showed them pictures of the trains that he drives. “How do you drive it?” One of the children asked – Ian explained that there is a brake and using the pictures he showed the children where the fire is that creates the steam and the chain that works the whistle.

Ian also showed the children his hi – vis jacket and his hat he wears sometimes when driving the train. Thank you so much Ian!
